We are Foreign Prisoners Network, an organization that helps foreign prisoners who are under extreme circumstances held in long remand.
Today, we are raising 25.000 GBP for Dara Abbas. Dara is 31 years old and, in his occupancy, he was the formal personal bodyguard of the deputy prime minister of Iraq. Dara is an official special force commando sergeant and has served his country in every way possible. Dara is a well-respected Muslim brother and has not done anything illegal that justifies his situation today!
Unfortunately, a Mauritian girlfriend by Facebook who invited Dara to Mauritius as they were fallen in love, would change his entire life!
The moment Dara arrived, he could stay in the villa of his local girlfriend Leeni. Together they have had an amazing love story, one you can only see in movies. Unfortunately for Dara that would not take that long! Soon after Dara was staying in the villa of his girlfriend, the Mauritius Police raided the villa where they found cannabis plants on the balcony.
Dara was not aware of this at all. Even his girlfriend has explained and stated to the police inquiry officers that Dara was innocent and had nothing to do with the cannabis plants.
Dara has clean criminal records and has never done anything illegal by law. Dara is a specialized special force commander who was for years the personal bodyguard for the deputy prime minister in his country and lives a clean life. He has no background in any illegal activities at all.
Today, Dara is more than 2 years INNOCENT and UNCONVICTED held in remand in the high-security prison Melrose in Mauritius. He has no access to toilet paper, clean water or even warm water to take a shower. Dara is not seeing his family due to difficult visa rules and because he only can get 15 minutes visit per week...
The prison system of Mauritius is well-known for extremely long remands without any form of trial. Dara is detained in the High-Security Prison System of Melrose. The only place where they held foreigners separated from the community! There is no daily program and even education is forbidden by the prison commissioner.
Today, we are trying to get Dara out of this inhumane prison system, to get him back with his family and his country, where he can finally continue his occupation as special force commander within the army of his country. We will use the GoFundMe campaign to end a long and unfair trial by financing a specialized lawyer to get Dara first out on bail and immediately after that to start a motion to get his case struck out because of the fact that Dara has done nothing illegal and that his arrest is an illegal arrest based on allegations.
As Mauritius has signed several Human Rights agreements with Amnesty International, The United Nations for Human Rights and Treaties and the African Commission of Human Rights, we are fighting to get the case of Dara to be struck out as an immediate result of the false allegations and the specific elements and circumstances in his case!
There is no legal backup from his embassy as the embassy of Iraq is not represented in Mauritius at all. There is not even a partner alliance by another embassy! Dara needs help from the community. We ask for your sympathy for Dara.
People like Dara are protecting the community and serving their country to keep it safe and protected. Now, it’s time to stand up all together for Dara to show him that the world is grateful for special force commanders like Dara.
In times of instability in the countries, we are counting on them. Now it’s time that Dara can count on the community.
We are raising 25.000 UK Pounds to finance Dara’s case and his lawyers and as well as to finance his deportation back to Iraq!
